January ended on a snowy note when a foot of snow blanketed the neighborhood providing the perfect foundation for some epic snow creations. Families and neighbors joined forces for outdoor fun and friendly competition to build spectacular snowmen for a chance win prizes from local businesses.

BAPA received over 50 entries for its first ever Southside Snowman Spectacular. After narrowing submissions down to the Top 10, the snowmen photos were posted to Facebook for a week-long voting campaign. Voters scrolled through some creative, funny, and outrageously cute snow creations, giving a “Like” to their favorites. With over 1,700 votes cast, the top three winners were announced on Feb. 5.

2nd Place: Snowmen Playing Around by the Doran Family. The Dorans showed off the more playful side of snowmen as they adorned their backyard with multiple snowmen at play to win second prize. a $25 gift card to Let’s Get Poppin and BAPA T-shirts.

3rd Place: Cozy Campfire Snowmen by the kids of 103rd & Oakley. The heavy snowfall gave this block full of kids a reason to get outside together to create a pair of snowmen getting cozy around a fire. They won third prize. a $25 gift card to Andy Sunflower Café and BAPA T-shirts.

“I feel like my kids think just being a contender is like winning the lottery. They loved participating in this,” said Caley Doran, whose children’s snowmen took 2nd place.
