Village Viewpoint: May 2024

By Mary Jo Viero

Before I mention all the wonderful things happening this month, I must tell you about our first Old House Lecture Series on April 23. Tim Blackburn and Mike Wilk from the Ridge Historical Society presented to a full house. They shared tips for researching your home and how to take care of it without ruining the important architectural details that make a home historic or special. Tim shared wonderful photos and stories about the historic homes in our community. It is the first in our series and we are planning for our next lecture in June. Be on the lookout for more details. Thank you to everyone who attended.

Thank you to our clean and green volunteers. You helped to make our community more beautiful, and your efforts are appreciated.

And now on to May!

This is the month we look forward to for so many reasons. It is the season for prom, communion, graduation, Mother’s Day and college kids returning home. BAPA has also been looking forward to May and is adding to the list of those wonderful occasions. May kicks off BAPA’s community event season with our first Porch Concert, followed by the annual Home Tour and our capping off the month with the Ridge Run and Memorial Day Parade. It’s exhausting and fun all at the same time.

Many of you know this because you have been enjoying these events for years. For our new neighbors, we invite you to come to all of them and see why we Love Where We Live.

Why do these events matter? They matter because they are the thread that connects our community. They bring us together to celebrate and experience our community through our love of architecture, music, sports, volunteerism, collaboration, relationship building and traditions. Even though these are not tangible, they matter.

How can you help?

It’s easy, join us at the first Porch Concert at Smith Village, buy tickets to the Home Tour, enjoy an amazing day, sign up to run, walk, or volunteer at our Ridge Run and stay for the Memorial Day Parade. Lastly, you can support BAPA by becoming a BAPA Member.

There are many ways to give including using the envelope included, going to our website at bapa.org or one of the easiest is with $10 per month.

I sincerely hope to see you this May. We put so much into the planning and execution, we just want to see you and the community come together and enjoy the events and each other!
