Village Viewpoint May 2022

By Mary Jo Viero
BAPA Executive Director

I don’t think anyone in the neighborhood is more excited about the arrival of May than me!

After two long years everything is finally getting back to normal. We’ve been planning our Home Tour, Porch Concerts, Ridge Run and Memorial Day parade for months!  And now, it’s time to run, walk, volunteer, cheer, peek inside our Hetheringtons, and enjoy live music at our first porch concert. Simply put, it’s time to Love Where You Live!

This month, you will see firsthand what BAPA does in our community. You will see BAPA showcase our incredible and significant architecture at the Home Tour. You will see our uniquely beautiful and friendly community with our 10K/5K Ridge Run on Memorial Day followed by a patriotic parade. Our porch concerts also start in May, and you’ll be seeing and enjoying free live music for months!

It’s easy to see BAPA at work through our events, but there are many things BAPA does that you do not see.  Every day BAPA is working with our schools to support and celebrate the amazing educational opportunities in our neighborhood.  We work directly with the 22nd District police to help maintain a safe community.  We never stop working with our businesses to help them succeed and thrive.

It is also my mission to keep our neighborhood filled with amazing trees. I am asking anyone who wants to help us save our trees to contact me at mjviero@bapa.org, and we can do it together. Do you have a favorite tree in the neighborhood? Send me a picture!

We are a small staff at BAPA,  and would do more if we could. Supporting BAPA’s efforts to strengthen the community is easy and important. The newest way to support BAPA is by becoming a monthly member.  We are excited to offer this simple option and hope you will consider it. You can sign up in a few clicks at bapa.org/support-bapa. You will be thanked with a new Love Where You Live shirt.

I want to celebrate the return of the Beverly Breast Cancer Walk and give a huge thanks to the wonderful neighbors that make it happen.

May is also filled with so many celebrations such as First Holy Communion, senior prom, graduation and Mother’s Day.  I wish everyone who is celebrating something this May my very best!
