Throw Back Thursdays 

 

Every week in June, Throw Back Thursdays will offer activities food and fun for young families, highlighted by music from a different era. Presented by BAPA and 19th Ward Ald. Matt O’Shea, Throw Back Thursdays will be held, weather-permitting, 5:30 to 7 p.m., and a free. 

Families are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or picnic baskets. Food and beverages will be available for purchase from local food trucks. COVID-19 safety protocols will be enforced and masks are required.  

On June 3, meet at Maggie Cosme Park, 9201 S. Longwood Dr., to celebrate the 1960s. Kids are encouraged to decorate their bikes, wagons or strollers with bright colors, flowers or peace signs. Morgan Martin from Live and Believe (LAB) Fitness will lead a high energy activity for the kids.  

On June 10, celebrate the 1970s and Disco at McKiernan Park, 10714 S. Sawyer. Kids can decorate their vehicle in a Disco theme, and music of the era will be even more fun with a freeze dance game led by FitCode.  

Barnard Park, 10431 S. Longwood Dr., is the place to be on June 17. The 1980s theme will focus on the 1985 Super Bowl champion Chicago Bears. Wear your favorite Bears apparel, decorate bikes, wagons and strollers in blue and orange, and get ready to dance the Super Bowl Shuffle.  

For the final Throw Back Thursday on June 24, meet at Bohn Park, 111th and Longwood Drive, to revisit the 1960s and celebrate the Chicago Bulls and all things MJ. Decorate bikes, wagons etc. with a Bulls theme, and wear your Bulls gear.
