The Gift of Volunteering

By Davia Douglas
BAPA Director of Community Relations

The wrapping paper has been recycled, we are deciding whether the tree is a new piece of furniture in the living room, and we have officially entered the season of goal setting and resolutions, but there is one more gift to open. That is the gift of volunteering!

BAPA’s commitment to unifying residents, institutions, and businesses around the common cause of nurturing Chicago’s best neighborhood begins with you, our neighbors! We are known for our many proactive, effective, and ever-evolving services, events, and programs that focus on issues that enhance the quality of life in our community. Those initiatives have been successful primarily because of the community members who have connected with BAPA and committed in one way or another as volunteers.

There are volunteer opportunities for all ages, time constraints, and on every side of our Beverly/Morgan Park community.

Volunteering is a wonderful way to engage in with neighbors, and we have a role that is just right for you!  We’re always looking for volunteers to help out at our signature events: Home Tour, Ridge Run, Memorial Day Parade, Garden Walk, Sip & Shop, and the Porch Concerts. But there are many ways to help our community by helping out at BAPA.

You can have the opportunity to meet community members who care about the same causes as you, like Save the Trees committee that acknowledges the beauty of our neighborhood and our remarkable historic residences showcased on the annual Home Tour.

You can use volunteering with BAPA to simply learn about the work that goes into sustaining our culturally diverse Village in the City through programs that support our local businesses and organizations.

You can even invest in our community and your neighbors in a way that you can see by honoring the people who gave their lives for our country while in the U.S. armed services through helping plan our Memorial Day Parade following the Ridge Run.

We are always looking for neighbors to join event planning committees, share their professional skills, and assist at our BAPA events throughout the year. To get started, give us a call at 773-233-3100 or email is at ddouglas@bapa.org and say you want to support the organization that is committed to supporting you! I am excited to hear from you!
