Neighbors are invited to register their pets for 12th annual Dog Days of Summer Pet Parade, Fri., July 19, 10 a.m. to noon, Smith Village north lawn, 2320 W. 113th Pl. “We encourage residents to bring their pets when they move to Smith Village. It’s one way to demonstrate how we value the important roles animals play in our lives,” said Marti Jatis, Smith Village executive director.
Stars in this year’s event will include several registered therapy dogs, as well as other dogs, cats and small animals owned by Smith Village staff and residents’ family members.
Since 2007, Smith Village has welcomed a variety of animals, including snakes, exotic birds, guinea pigs, potbelly pigs, alpacas, goats, ponies and chickens to strut their stuff at the pet parade, weather permitting. All competitors in the parade will receive “doggy bags.” Special prizes will be awarded to the top three contestants. Dog biscuits and water bowls will be provided for canines. People refreshments will include water, ice-cold punch and pet-themed cookies.
