Support the Center Fund Raiser

The 9th Annual Support the Center fund raising event for the Catholic Youth Ministry Center at Morgan Park High School (The Blue House) will be held Sat., May 19, 5 to 10 p.m., 115 Bourbon Street, 3359 W. 115th St., Merrionette Park.

At the event, three volunteers will be honored: Chicago Police Officers Bill Langle and Carressa Northcross and Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Maureen Renno. These volunteers have been working with the young people at the Center for the last two years, providing educational workshops and small group reflection sessions. Every month the youth have a chance to discuss, question and share with people in these authority positions and have formed special, mutually respectful relationships.

The Catholic Youth Ministry Center at Morgan Park High School is a unique youth program based on the concept of the Newman Centers on many college campuses, and the only program of its kind associated with a Chicago Public High School. In 1977, members of the Beverly/Morgan Park and Mount Greenwood communities gathered to brainstorm on how best the community could support the local public high school and the dream of the Catholic Youth Ministry Center was born. Through the tremendous efforts of many community members, the facility was purchased and renovated, and dedicated in fall 1979. Throughout its 39 year history, thousands of young people have participated in its programs.

Support the Center will feature door prizes, raffle baskets, and silent and live auction items. The $40 donation includes dinner, wine, beer and soft drinks. Make reservations online at www.cymcatmphs.org or by phone at 773-881-0193. Admission will also be accepted at the door.
