Positions Open for Editor and Graphic Designer
The Beverly Area Planning Association (BAPA), a community-based, not-for-profit organization serving Chicago’s Beverly/Morgan Park neighborhood since 1947, seeks to contract an Editor/Writer experienced in print publications for a part-time position managing content and production, and a graphic designer with publication experience for The Villager, BAPA’s monthly tabloid newspaper (circulation 15,500).

Publication Editor/Writer
Part-time, average 40–50 hours per month
Start date: July 1, 2023
Requirements: Candidates must be familiar with Adobe Creative Suite, primarily InDesign and Photoshop. Job requirements include working with freelance writers and photographer, advertising sales and production, and graphic artist to plan content, make assignments for, and produce for printing a 20- to 28-page newspaper. The Villager is a program of BAPA, and content is driven by the people, organizations, businesses, and events in Beverly/Morgan Park. The Villager is filled with articles and advertisements that reflect BAPA’s mission-based work in promoting local businesses, schools, community engagement, and beautification efforts; protecting historic districts; and presenting community events. Hourly rate commensurate with experience.

Graphic Design and Layout
Part-time, average 15–25 hours per month
Start date: July 1, 2023
Requirements: Candidates must be skilled in Adobe Creative Suite, primarily InDesign and Photoshop. Experience in print and digital publications is required for start-to-finish layout and production of The Villager, as well as design and production of posters, flyers, and e-newsletters, as needed by the organization. Job requirements include working under the direction of the Editor to place all content for a 20- to 28-page newspaper, and create press-ready PDF for printing. Hourly rate commensurate with experience.
