Porch Concert Series Kicks Off with Smith Village’s 100 Year Celebration

By Liz Woodward

Get ready to groove to the rhythm of the neighborhood as the Beverly Area Planning Association (BAPA) kicks off its inaugural Porch Concert Series! This exciting and free community event aims to bring residents together for an evening of music, food, and celebration right in our own backyard.

The first concert is set to take place on Friday, May 10 at 6:30 p.m. at Smith Village, 2320 West 113th Place, marking the beginning of what promises to be a summer filled with soulful tunes and good vibes. Join us in commemorating Smith Village’s remarkable 100 years of serving the senior community.

Marti Jatis, Smith Village Executive Director, says “Hosting a porch concert is a lot like inviting the whole neighborhood over to your house to celebrate your 100th birthday. It is also a way for us to say thank you to the community for supporting us and making so many great memories over the years. The last time we hosted the porch concert we even had former employees and family members come back to Smith Village to enjoy the concert and say how much they appreciated having Smith Village in the neighborhood. It was a bit of a family reunion. It is an honor to join BAPA for their 2024 porch concert series, and we are grateful to be hosting this month!”

Music will be provided by the talented band Return2Soul. They are back by popular demand and are sure to have the whole crowd dancing with their R & B, Funk, Hard Rock, Soft Rock, and Country!

Craig Harper, Return2Soul’s drummer said, “If you want to be in this business, you have to be able to hit everybody in attendance.”

Adding to the festivities, local favorite Calabria Imports will be serving up delicious bites to satisfy your appetite as you enjoy the music.

Mark your calendars, grab your lawn chairs, and join us for an evening of celebration and community spirit at Smith Village and make this summer one to remember!

For more information and updates on future concerts, visit the BAPA website or follow us on social media.
