New Pool Schedule at Kennedy Park

Kennedy Park, 11320 S. Western, is making a huge splash this summer with a new pool schedule. Most notably, the enhanced schedule features large blocks of time for family swim during the peak hours of the day. In addition, Kennedy Park will be one of three City pools to be open to the end of September.

The new schedule is the result of a successful collaboration between the Chicago Park District and local residents to make the pool more accessible to families, seniors, children and lap swimmers.

The pool opens Fri., June 17, 7 a.m. Pool passes and lap passes are available online at www.chicagoparkdistrict.com/parks/kennedy-park/kennedy-park-pool/. The fee for lap swim is $25 a month or $40 for three months. If purchased online, bring receipt and photo ID to the park beginning June 13 to receive swim pass. In-person registration for pool and lap passes begins June 13 at the park, Mon. through Thurs., 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The southwest side has lost several private pools over the past few years. Fortunately, the Chicago Park District, under the direction of Supt. Michael Kelly, made a significant investment and improvement to the Kennedy Park pool a few years ago by installing a new heating system.  The pool is one of Beverly/Morgan Park’s true hidden gems.

New Park Area Manager, Ed Affolter, has brought great energy and enthusiasm to local parks and was instrumental in the continued efforts to improve Kennedy Park pool for all users.  In addition, BAPA Community Organizer Mary Jo Viero is spearheading a community group for Kennedy Park that will assist in advocating for community improvements. To become a part of this group, contact her at mjviero@bapa.org.
