Neighborhood Notes: News for August 2021 

 

Test your puzzle-solving skills this summer with BAPA’s 2021 History Mystery Bike Adventure. Find the game map at bapa.org  then use the clues to track down fun facts about our community. Snap a pic of your completed puzzle solution and email with your contact info by Sept. 15 to bapa@bapa.org.  

The Margaritaville Mile craft margarita crawl continues through Sept. 6 on Western Avenue. Stop at Franconello, Barney Callaghan’s, Open Outcry Brewing Co., Horse Thief Hollow, Ken’s and Americano’s for a refreshing margarita and a chance to win awesome prizes. The Jazz-N-Q summer concert and picnic returns to Morgan Park Presbyterian Church, 11056 S. Longwood Dr., Sun., Aug. 25, 4 to 6:30 p.m. Headlining is the Dibs Brass Band (LDB) led by former church music director, Lance Loiselle.  Dibs deftly synthesizes the gritty sounds of Chicago with the high energy street beat of New Orleans. The free barbecue includes burgers and franks on the grill and New Orleans-inspired summer dishes. Free will donations will support Community Outreach Ministries. Bring a chair or a blanket.

Garden Club of Morgan Park/Beverly presents “Rachel Carson,” a living history program by actress/historian Leslie Goddard, Wed., Sept. 1, 9 a.m., Beverly Arts Center, 2407 W. 111th St. The program is set in 1963, the year after “Silent Spring,” Carson’s best-selling book about the environmental impact of chemical pesticides, was published.
