Morgan Park High School is 100 Years Old!

For a century now, Morgan Park High School has educated teens to meet the challenges that lie ahead. The quiet halls hold many memories. Brass plaques commemorate alumni who are veterans of foreign wars, beginning with World War I and World War II. A 1992 edition of the school’s newspaper reports that alumna Mae Jemison, physician and NASA astronaut, orbited the earth aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavor.

Upcoming events will celebrate the MPHS centennial and many of alumni from 1949, 1950, 1954, and ensuing decades who attended the January kick-off celebration are expected to return.

MPHS Centennial Summer Events

June 5: Special Concert for Alumni and Students. The former choir and band conductors, Mary Burns and Roland Dougherty, will return to guest conduct current students, who will perform classic songs which won competitions during their time teaching at MPHS in the 1980s and 1990s.

Aug. 14: Summer Celebration, all classes reunion barbecue. The award-winning MPHS jazz band will perform at this family-friendly picnic, a wonderful opportunity to catch up with old friends.

Restoring Our Legacy Capital Campaign

MPHS has begun a capital improvement fund raising effort to restore the sound and lighting systems in the auditorium, to resurface the track and football fields, to upgrade technology, to fund foreign exchange programs, and to replace student lockers.
