Meet BAPA’s Newest Board Member: Tim McSweeney

By Susan Baird

It’s always interesting when there are changes at the helm. This is an introduction to BAPA’s newest board members, Tim McSweeney and Quinn Donnelly. McSweeney and Donnelly were both added to the Board of Directors earlier this year.

Tim McSweeney was born and raised in Beverly/Morgan Park. He even recalls hearing about BAPA as a kid! He and his wife, Julia, have lived here for many years, and have also raised their grown children here. He is an electrician.

McSweeney is proud of being a longtime supporter of the South Side Irish Parade, including being a member of the executive committee. After a two-year break over a decade ago, the parade has returned more family friendly, he said. He believes it’s also great for businesses both during and after the festivities, particularly for real estate, with people experiencing the livability and friendliness of the neighborhood.

As he has a little more free time, McSweeney has become interested in lending more of his time and talents to BAPA. As a fan of the Porch Concerts, he has noticed many young families enjoying the entertainment, and Beverly/Morgan Park itself. His goal is to emphasize to residents via BAPA membership what a desirable, livable city should offer. After reading about planning what an ideal city should encompass, he realized that Beverly/Morgan Park already offers the necessities. Within a 10-minute walk there are grocery stores, shops, pharmacies, parks, restaurants, entertainment, and even a place to grab a beer.

To round out McSweeney’s interests, he enjoys all sorts of music, and occasionally strums his guitar. He’s also surprised how much he enjoys tennis at the Beverly Hills Tennis Club. The family loves to travel and has visited Europe, particularly Ireland, several times.
