On Friday, May 5, neighborhood residents will be honored at the Mount Carmel Alumni Banquet. Matt Taylor, Class of 1957, will be honored as the Mount Carmel Man of the Year. Matt is a 46 year resident of Beverly and had a 30 year term as President of the Maple/Morgan Park Community Food Pantry, from which he had to resign because of health problems. He is also a member of the Mount Carmel Hall of Fame and a past recipient of the Fr. Aquinas Colgan Humanitarian Award. Matt and his 1957 classmates will be celebrating their 60th year anniversary at the banquet.
Michael Sheahan, Jr., a long time resident of Beverly, will be presented with the Fr. Aquinas Coughlan Humanitarian Award in recognition of his volunteer work with the Special Olympics of Illinois. Michael is a 1984 graduate of Christ the King grammar school and a 1988 graduate Mount Carmel.
Beverly resident Mary Jo Pienton, a member of the Mount Carmel faculty, will become an Honorary Alumni of Mount Carmel.
Inducted into the Mount Carmel Hall of Fame will be USAF Col. Steven dePyssler, Class of 1938, Dr. Joseph O’Gallagher, Phd., Class of 1957, Michael McGarry, Class of 1971, David Novosel, Class of 1977, Don O’Keefe, Class of 1981 and Michael McGrew, Class of 1992.
