Margarita Mile Returns for Extended Run  

Sip your way along the Western Avenue Margarita Mile this summer! Twelve locations on a mile-long stretch of South Western Avenue and Chicago’s only meadery will be mixing artisanal margaritas throughout July and much of August. 

In its fourth year, the Western Avenue Margarita Mile gives local establishments an opportunity to be creative and shine by offering artisanal cocktails like those associated with fine dining downtown. It also reflects the strong sense of community and pride on the far South side of Chicago. 

The promotion is sponsored by the Morgan Park Beverly Hills Business Association in cooperation with the Beverly Area Planning Association. 

Six of the participating businesses are profiled right here, with another six set to be introduced in the August issue of The Villager.  

Wild Blossom Meadery & Winery 

For more than two decades, Wild Blossom Meadery & Winery, 9030 S. Heraitage Ave. has been a fixture in Chicago, creating wine and mead using locally produced ingredients. The meads produced at Wild Blossom Meadery & Winery are among the most sustainably produced beverages in the world. With more than 30 years of winemaking experience, Wild Blossom Meadery & Winery is the first winery in Chicago and the first meadery in Illinois. Being a mead producer, at Wild Blossom Meadery & Winery we raise our own bees and collect our own honey. 

Each bottle we produce creates a ripple effect of positive change as for each bottle produced, our bees pollinate some 2 million flowers. Those, in turn, produce 20 to 40 million seeds destined to become new flowers. The positive impact plants have on the environment is well known. Meanwhile at our location on Chicago’s lakefront, we purify and use water from Lake Michigan to produce our wines. When you buy honey wine from us you’ve planted the seeds for millions of new flowers and re-invested in our local community. 

Meadarita: Wild Blossom’s Hibiscus Nectar mead, tequila, simple syrup, and lime juice over ice. The popular Meadarita is back to enjoy in the lushest backyard of Beverly! Made with Wild Blossom’s own Hibiscus mead, it’s a delightfully sweet summer drink. Stay tuned for a possible dry option this year! 

O’Rourke’s Office 

Not too long after making the move to Beverly, Dave Kriedemann and his sister Julie purchased O’Rourke’s Office, 11064 S. Western Ave. In the intervening 13 years, Dave and Julie have fostered a friendly neighborhood atmosphere where employees and patrons have become friends, people meet their partners, and every occasion under the sun has been celebrated. 

O’Rourke’s has ample space for hosting parties and private events, and they opened a new outdoor patio last summer! Known for their martinis, O’Rourke’s also offers a selection of craft beer and cocktails. 

Owners Dave and Julie love the family-oriented nature of Beverly/Morgan Park, and stay in the business because of the people, both employees and patrons. 

Coronarita: O’Rourke’s will be offering a $10 Coronarita this year! Coronaritas are classic margaritas with a Corona tipped upside down into the cocktail. Stop by for a Coronarita during the Margarita Mile!   

Open Outcry Brewing 

Open Outcry Brewing Company, 10934 S. Western Ave. named after the famed pit trading at the old Chicago Board of Trade, is a taproom, rooftop and brewpub making it’s own beer and craft cocktails. Open Outcry Brewing has offers a variety of craft beers made in house from a Mexican Style Lager to barrel-aged imperial milk stouts. They offer a seasonal food menu, which includes wood fired pizzas, fresh salads, sandwiches and homemade desserts. Their seasonal craft cocktail selection is thoughtfully developed and includes four fresh margaritas (including this year’s Margarita Mile Feature – a hot honey margarita), and a refreshing prosecco spritz. 

Hot Honey: Tequila, Cointreau, Fresh Lime Juice, Hot Honey, Garnished with a Lime Wheel and Fresh Jalapeno 

Pair it with….Our Grilled Mahi Mahi Tacos served on Flour Tortillas with a Housemade Pineapple Jalapeno Slaw, Chipotle Aioli and topped with Crumbled Bacon.   

Cork & Kerry 

Consistently rated as one of Chicago’s favorite Irish pubs, Cork & Kerry, 10614 S. Western Ave. has been an institution on Western Avenue for over 20 years. Cork & Kerry offers something for everyone in an approachable atmosphere. They have lots of space indoors and outdoors for both casual hangouts and private parties. Meet new friends, visit with old friends, and say hello to neighbors all in one place! 

Spicy Lime Marg: Cork & Kerry is featuring a spicy lime Marg, and customers will get to keep the jar as well. 

Horse Thief Hollow  

Opened in 2013, Horse Thief Hollow, 10426 S. Western Ave. is the culmination of Beverly native Neil Byers’ interests in hand crafted beer and flavorful cooking with a Southern accent. Gumbo, crab cakes and slow smoked BBQ are highlighted on the menu along with beef raised specifically for us at the Chicago HS for Ag Sciences. Over the years we have racked up many awards for our beer, making us the most award-winning Brewery on the South Side. In addition to our great beer, we feature a full bar with craft cocktails and great wines. 

Blood Orange Margarita: Horse Thief Hollow is crafting a Blood Orange Margarita for the MM! 

-1.5 oz tequila, 5 oz Blood Orange Liqueur, 5 oz Honey Simple Syrup, .5 oz Gran Gala, 1 oz Lime Juice. Place all ingredients in a shaker, add ice, shake. Strain/pour over ice into a salted rimmed rocks glass, garnish with dehydrated blood orange. Make it spicy! Add 2-3 slices of fresh jalapenos when shaking the margarita.   


Located on the South Side of Chicago in the Beverly/Morgan Park community, Ken’s on Western, 10522 S. Western Ave. is a classic American dining experience. The late Ken Courtright originally opened Ken’s Lounge in 1956. From the beginning, the restaurant served the Southern Italian specialties that Ken Courtright’s wife, the former Sally Casto, learned to make at the restaurant her family operated in the Brainerd neighborhood years ago. 

Ken’s on Western is about family, tradition, food, libations, classic favorites, great times with close friends. Our formal dining area is open Monday and Tuesday from 4-9 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday from 4-10 p.m. and Sunday from 3-9 p.m. The bar is open later!
