Ladder Up Offers Tax Return Assistance 

Founded in 1994, City-Wide Tax Assistance Program provided free tax return preparation services and college financial aid assistance. In 2008, the organization adopted the name Ladder Up to reflect its broader mission of helping people access the financial resources and opportunities needed to climb up and out of poverty. 

Beginning Feb. 1, Ladder Up will offering tax preparation assistance at 24 locations, including Olive Harvey College, 10001 S. Woodlawn. 

Individuals who make less than $30,000 a year and families (two or more people in the household) who make less than $56,000 are eligible for free tax preparation. 

All locations are first come, first served and a few offer appointments. 

Ladder Up is a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program sponsored by the IRS. Volunteers are trained and certified to provide tax return assistance in the community. In total, Ladder Up has returned over $562 million in economic benefits to more than 317,000 hardworking people across the Chicago area.
