John Wesley Eyewear for the Fashion Forward

By Kristin Boza

Looking for an extraordinary pair of sunglasses or regular glasses frames? John Wesley Eyewear, 10735 S. Western, is destined to be a go-to spot for fashionable frames.

Donice Bibbs, Chief Operating Officer of the luxury eyewear boutique, says her goal is to provide fashionable yet affordable eyewear to fit her clients’ personality and lifestyle.

“We want to inspire eyeglass wearers to implement the art of fashion into their frames,” she said. “We chose to open our first flagship store in March in Beverly/Morgan Park because of the family-oriented community and the warmth of the neighbors. I have always enjoyed shopping local in the quaint specialized shops in the area.”

When Bibbs was growing up and wearing glasses, she was often called a nerd. But her confidence built and she began choosing bold, bright frames to express her personality. However, she was dismayed at how expensive truly unique eyewear could be. She opened John Wesley Eyewear, named after her late father and eldest brother, to provide affordable and unique eyewear.

“When building out our store, it was important that our customers felt like they were walking into a French vintage boutique in France,” Bibbs said. “We have a warm and friendly environment with a touch of opulence.”

The attentive staff is eager to help customers choose the perfect frames out of more than 200 that they carry.

“We conduct a personalized frame fit test that includes face shape, skin tone, eye color, and several other pertinent questions to assist in helping our customers select the best frame/style for them,” Bibbs said. “Our personalized fit test is complimentary with purchase.”

From cat-eye frames for women to unisex cycling frames, John Wesley Eyewear also has sunglasses, blue light glasses to be used when on a tablet, phone, or computer, and children’s eyewear.

The shop hosts private Champagne (or Sparkling Juice) & Sunglasses parties where friends can gather for a 90-minute personal shopping experience. Bibbs also hosts a networking event for entrepreneurs on the third Friday of the month; the next one is Fri., July 22, 6 to 8 p.m. RSVP at 773-701-6552.

John Wesley Eyewear is open by appointment only Tues. through Fri., 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Walk-ins welcome Sat., 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Find out more at JohnWesleyEyewear.com.
