G&L Remains Open; Longtime Walden Parkway Auto Shop Still Up for Sale

By Tim Moran

The G&L Automotive Services auto repair shop that’s been operating out of the same spot on 99th and Walden Parkway and owned by the Wedster family for more than 70 years is still open, although plans remain in the works to close the shop once the building at 9920 S. Walden Parkway is sold.

There are no buyers yet, business owner Ron Wedster told The Villager in late February.

“As of now, we are still open,” he said.

With neither an online presence nor fancy sign announcing its location, the Wedster family has been able to keep in business generationally.

Honesty, Ron Wedster said, has been the key to success.

“If you are fair with your customers, they are going to come back,” he said when the business was first put up for sale in October 2023. “If the tire itself costs $160, I make $30. Everything here is upfront. There’s no extra cost.”

A real estate listing shows the price on the building has gone down to $845,000. Listing agent Betsy Green said the focus in finding a buyer is on nearby auto shops considering expanding in the area.
