Exploration and Celebration for Christmas Season

“Are We There Yet?” We all have asked or been asked this question. This Advent and Christmas season, Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 9401 S. Oakley Ave., will explore this question through Sunday morning worship, available in-person and through Facebook Live at 9:30 a.m., and Wednesday night contemplative Advent services, Dec. 8 and 15, 7 p.m. These services use silence, readings, music, and interactive prayer stations to create a spiritual oasis in the midst of a busy season.

Bethlehem will also celebrate Christmas with the annual Santa Lucia festival Sun., Dec. 12, immediately following the 9:30 a.m. worship service. This festival of light with roots in Swedish tradition honors Lucia, a saint who is remembered for her sacrificial acts of faith and service.

Christmas Eve worship will be held Dec. 24, 3 and 10:30 p.m. The earlier service is designed with people of all ages in mind and includes an “instant Christmas pageant.” The Candlelight service begins with music at 10:15 p.m. All are invited.

Bethlehem is a congregation of the Evangelical Church in America and is a Reconciling in Christ Congregation, welcoming and affirming full participation by all. More information at bethlehem-chicago.org.
