College Care Package – Support local shops and your student

By Mary Jo Viero

It’s the perfect time of year to send your college student a care package filled with their favorite treats. Why not support your student and shop local at the same time? All of the items in the photograph are from businesses in Beverly/Morgan Park and can be purchased for between $5 and $40.

For kids who want to show their neighborhood pride, BAPA has you covered! Shop our Love Where You Live gear—including short and long-sleeved t-shirts, quarter zip sweatshirt, beverage accessories, sunglasses and décor—on our website.  (Go to ‘Support BAPA’ and select ‘Shop’ from the drop-down menu.)

For additional items that should bring a smile to their face, shop our local small businesses.

  • Cardinalis Cardinalis has unique decks of playing cards, fine pen and pencil sets, sustainable stationery, and planners.
  •  Oleander and Artesian offers key chains with local themes and positive messages. They also have a variety of cards with local favorites such as Fox’s and Top Notch.
  •  Beverly Dry Goods has a nice selection of tea and honey, especially with the cold weather coming.  They also have jars of spices to take the dorm food up a notch.
  •  Belle Up has small wooden signs with our zip code to remind them of home.
  •  Heritage Gallery has a Chicago candle to keep dorm rooms or apartments fresh.
  •  To help them relax, send them a record from Beverly Phono Mart or Beverly Records.
  •  Made Artisan Collaborative has a great selection of stickers for their laptop.
  •  Everything’s Relative can keep them clean and moisturized with a variety of organic products.
  • We know that they are not eating right so head over to Southtown Health Foods for some vitamins and supplements to keep them healthy.
  • As for sleep, they are probably not getting enough of that either. Freshly roasted coffee from Beverly Bakery is the answer.
  • Don’t forget to add something sweet — Sweet Freaks has everything to satisfy their sweet tooth and fuel late-night study sessions.
