The Castle Concert Series continues with a classic folk music performance by Ann Hills, Sat., May 18, 7 p.m., Heritage Gallery, 1907 W. 103rd St.
Hills is a beloved voice in contemporary folk music, accompanied by her guitar, banjo, and sometimes a Tibetan bell. Her song, “Follow That Road,” the title cut of the Martha’s Vineyard Songwriter Retreat, is considered a folk classic of the late 1990s. Whether singing her own award-winning songs, or the words of child poet Opal Whiteley and Hoosier poet James Whitcomb Riley, she performs with soul and playful humor. Thanks to a generous gift from Beverly Morgan Park residents Dean Miller, and his wife, Martha Swift, both now deceased, the historic Givins Castle and Heritage Gallery serve as venues for the concert series. Swift grew up in Beverly and once headed the language department at Morgan Park Academy.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. A $20 donation is suggested with proceeds going toward maintenance of the Givins Castle. For more information, call 773-719-7059.
