FRUNCHROOM SERIES BEGINS ITS 2020 SHOWS THIS MONTH
South Side storytellers convene at Beverly Arts Center
Chicago (Morgan Park), IL: The Frunchroom, the live storytelling series about the South Side of Chicago that makes its home in Beverly/Morgan Park, returns this month with five new stories and performers.
The next show will be at 730pm on Thursday, January 16th at Beverly Arts Center (2407 W 111th St, Chicago). A $5 donation to benefit the Beverly Area Arts Alliance is requested.
Scheduled to appear at The Frunchroom’s January show are professor-turned-storyteller and producer Ada Cheng; coach and live lit host Lisa Colleen, creator of the Folded Map Project Tonika Johnson, teacher and comedian Madeline O’Malley, and lawyer and social policy advocate Jessica Scheller.
“Our storytellers bring an array of experiences, viewpoints, and interests together in each show,” said Frunchroom host and co-producer Scott Smith. “Most people don’t like to leave their houses on January evenings, but we’re glad they make an exception for events like this.”
Along with a new live show, there are new episodes of The Frunchroom podcast available for download on iTunes, Google Play, Stitcher, Spotify, and other podcast providers. The two most recent episodes feature a set of 2nd anniversary shows from back in 2017.
“The podcast was on a long hiatus, which we hope won’t happen again,” said Smith. “If you’ve missed a show in the past, you’ll soon be able to find it in your podcast feed.” New episodes of the podcast will be released each month.
The unique mix of art, cocktails and stories at The Frunchroom is sponsored by The Beverly Arts Center. The event continues to be produced as a showcase for original written work and presented in partnership with The Beverly Area Arts Alliance, the organization responsible for local arts events like the Uprising Craft Market and Local Art on Tap.
The Frunchroom has played to packed houses since it began in April 2015. Previous readers include local residents and business owners; TV, radio, and podcast hosts, writers, teachers, poets, politicians and artists.
