Southwest Chicago and suburban families and caregivers of older adults living with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia are invited to free support groups either March 5 at Smith Village in Chicago’s Beverly neighborhood or March 7 at Smith Crossing in Orland Park. Both begin at 6:30 p.m.
The hour-long gatherings at both life plan communities will be open to questions and comments from the assembled group. After the meetings, light refreshments will be served.
On Tuesday, March 5, the topic will be caregiver relief according to social service director of long-term care Diane Morgan. Her guest speakers will be yoga instructor Joan Hogan CYT, who has taught and practiced yoga in the Southwest area of Chicago and suburbs since 2003, and Ann Grutzius, a massage therapist at Smith Village and also The Relaxation Station at 107th and Hale. They will talk about the benefits of giving massages and will lead the group in some yoga breathing techniques. The meeting will be at 2320 W. 113th Place in Chicago.
