Carl Spencer Day
The Ridge Historical Society (RHS) is hosting a Flag Day celebration to remember the late Carl Spencer. The hostess is Elaine Spencer, Carl’s widow, the current president of RHS. The event will be held at RHS headquarters in the Graver-Driscoll House, 10621 S. Seeley Ave., Chicago, on Friday, June 14, beginning at 7:00 p.m. Hors d’oeuvres and wine and beer and non-alcoholic beverages will be served. A donation of $25 is suggested, to benefit RHS. Reservations are required and may be made by phoning RHS at 773-881-1675 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Carl Spencer was born on Flag Day 100 years ago. He was well-known in the community for his positive outlook and great stories. He was the owner of the American Perforator Co. and a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a strong supporter of RHS, serving on the Board for many years. He was also a member of the Kiwanis and the American Legion. He was probably best known for being an avid bicycle rider and racer. On permanent display at RHS are one of Spencer’s racing bikes and other memorabilia. He died in 2010.
Videos and pictures of Spencer will be on display and guests are invited to share their memories about him. For more information on Spencer, visit the Ridge Historical Society Facebook page.
