A family holiday movie, but not the type you’re used to seeing. A tearjerker that comes with a lot of ghosts and skeletons. Coco is both of these movies. It’s a standout achievement from Pixar that explores the mythology surrounding the Dia De Los Muertos holiday of early November through the story of Miguel, who, aspiring to be a musician like his idol, Ernesto De La Cruz, manages to accidentally transport himself to the land of the dead. It is because of his adventures there where he learns the truth about his long-lost father and the truth about some family secrets and rivalries harbored by his grandma Coco. Filled with some of the catchiest music this side of the Living, Coco is a fitting start to November and perhaps the ideal post-Halloween movie.
