BAC Announces Last Show of Black Box Series
Classic Comedy “Same Time, Next Year” to be Staged
(Chicago, June 18, 2019) – The Beverly Arts Center closes out its 2018-2019 Black Box Series with the classic play, “Same Time, Next Year” August 10 – 18, at the Beverly Arts Center, 2407 W. 111th St. The play is a 1975 romantic comedy by Bernard Slade. It ran four years on Broadway, winning a Tony Award for lead actress Ellen Burstyn, who later recreated her role in the motion picture adaptation alongside Alan Alda. The hugely popular romantic comedy will be directed by Carly Bishop.
In February, 1951, New Jersey accountant George Peters and Oakland housewife Doris meet at a Northern California inn. They have an affair, and agree to meet once a year, despite the fact both are married to others and have six children between them. Over the course of the next 24 years, they develop an emotional intimacy deeper than what one would expect to find between two people meeting for a clandestine relationship just once a year. During the time they spend with each other, they discuss the births, deaths, and marital problems each is experiencing at home, while they adapt themselves to the social changes affecting their lives. Twenty-five years of manners and morals are hilariously and touchingly played out by the lovers
Performances will take place on the following dates:
