Linda Flippin opened Flippin Flavors, 1848 W. 95th St., in early 2020 with her husband Brian. The shop specializes in creating fresh salads and sandwiches centered around their homemade marinades and rubs.
Linda did not intend for Flippin Flavors to become a restaurant. It started as an idea to bottle her marinade. She was always the one her friends went to for advice or help in the kitchen, and she wanted to turn that talent into a business. In one night, Linda sat down, created her tax ID and started building her website. She was intent on making her idea a reality.
Once Flippin Flavors was up and running, the economy shifted and people started losing their jobs due to the pandemic. Linda decided to open her business as a restaurant so she could create jobs for some of those people in need. She says she “loves hiring and helping youth and others in need.”
Flippin Flavors now has five employees that she values. She says she wants to go above and beyond for them, to uplift them.
The Flippins aren’t not helping people just through their restaurant. In 2011, Linda started the Beautiful People Organization, a nonprofit with the mission to “provide essentials for the homeless, those in shelters, senior citizens, adults, and children who do without shelter, clothing, and food, as well as mentoring the youth.”
They help people in need through Thanksgiving dinners, coat and toy drives.
Linda’s vision of becoming a “brand all about good for the people” has certainly paid off. The restaurant’s fresh flavors have been noticed and the spot quickly become known around the city. Flippin Flavors is a favorite of the Chicago Tribune for the Philly Steak Sandwich. They have also been featured on CBS and in Eater’s “New Restaurants to Try in Chicago.”
The accolades are well-deserved, and not only for the Philly. Flippin Flavors serves a plethora of salads and hoagies along with friendly service that are all getting attention as well.
Linda says they are “so appreciative of all the support in the Beverly neighborhood.” She looks forward to seeing Flippin Flavors grow and, hopefully, become a franchise one day maybe with one of her current employees taking that opportunity.
