Blue Door Neighborhood Center Focuses on Health and Wellness

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL) created the Blue Door Neighborhood Center at 11840 S. Marshfield Ave. to provide the community with opportunities to learn how to lead a healthier life.

In-person and virtual classes are available including classes on healthy meal planning, exercising, and relaxing through meditation; workshops on how to best manage health conditions, like heart disease and asthma; resources for understanding and using health insurance; and tips for connecting to community services that provide food and transportation.

The Blue Door Neighborhood Center aims to help others navigate the health care system, whether or not they are a BCBSIL member; programming is open to everyone. However, those who are BCBSIL members can get extra assistance on their specific health plan, and BCBSIL Medicaid members can meet with a Blue Door care coordinator to help manage health care needs.

The Blue Door team recognizes that there are numerous other factors that can impact health and wellness, which is why they also plan to assist community members resources to help with overcoming transportation issues, accessing healthy food, and finding stable housing.

Head to the Morgan Park Blue Door Neighborhood Center on Dec. 9 from 12 to 2 p.m. for a vaccine clinic. Blue Door is planning upcoming farmers markets for fruit and vegetable distribution as well as seminars on quitting smoking, diabetes education, protecting your identity, and job club. Follow them on Facebook @BlueDoorCenterIL or visit BCBSIL.com/BDNC for other events and activities.

In-person programming is available Mon. through Fri., 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Virtual programming takes place Mon., through Fri., 5 to 7 p.m. and Sat., 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
