Beverly Arts Center Honors 5 Local Women Leaders at 2nd Annual UnGala

By Tim Moran

The BAC will honor individuals and organizations that have been stalwart supporters of the arts and arts education on the South Side at Bold Voices/Bold Women on Friday, March 1st.

“The fact that these local business associations all have women leaders just dawned on me,” said Dr. Carla Carter, the Beverly Arts Center’s executive director.

That realization is the premise for BAPA’s Mary Jo Viero, the Morgan Park Beverly Hills Business Association’s Caroline Connors, the Mt. Greenwood Business Association’s Jamie Berten, the 95th Street Business Association’s Erin Ross and the Morgan Park Roots’ Crystal Warren becoming the honorees at the BAC’s second annual unGala Women’s History Month celebration on March 1.

“Caroline and Jamie were instrumental in getting a town hall for the funders of the arts,” Carter said. “Mary Jo is always referring us to people who want to hold events here. Erin held an event here and Crystal brought 140 members from Morgan Park to our ‘Raisin in the Sun’ show last year.”

The program for the night, called “Bold Voices, Bold Women: A Benefit Honoring Champions of the Arts” will include an awards ceremony followed by an hour-long comedy show from the Bad Momz of Comedy, a Chicago-based female comedic group, Carter said. Two of Chicago’s top female DJs will also be at the event.

“It was a big event last year, people stayed for a long time,” Carter said. “And we’re making it better. It’s the first time in some time that we’ve had something like this in Beverly, and it’s something we want to build and grow every year.”

Go to the Beverly Arts Center website for tickets. Regular admission is $40 and VIP, which includes priority seating in the theater, is $75. For tickets go to thebeverlyartscenter.com
