Allstate Insurance to Host Retirement Strategies for Women Seminar

Allstate Insurance to Host Retirement Strategies for Women Seminar

Allstate agent Joshua Mercer presents Retirement Strategies for Women, a breakfast seminar, Wed., Nov. 28, 7:30 to 9:30 a.m., BAPA Community Room, 11109 S. Longwood Dr. Mercer and guest speakers will address topics that include developing financial goals, determining your net worth, will and estate planning and much more. The breakfast meeting is free and open to area women interested in learning more about creating a financially sound future.

Mercer said financial security is especially important for women, as the life expectancy of the average female is five years greater than that of her male counterpart.

“Women are living longer than men, it’s just a fact,” Mercer said. “It’s important that women understand how to keep their finances in order and how to plan for the future.”

Mercer also cited the income gap and the fact that a woman is two times more likely to have a part-time job as reasons why financial planning should be a main concern among the female population.

One of the first steps in preparing for the future is determining what is important to you, Mercer said. Knowing how you want to live during retirement and what you will require to feel secure is crucial in understanding how to go about a savings plan. Having a lifestyle in mind can be a big motivation, Mercer said.

Three themes will be woven throughout the seminar: Goals, time horizon, and risk tolerance, all of which are key components to a sound financial plan and can help ease the uncertainty and confusion that are the main culprits in someone’s decision not to plan.

“Most people don’t have current plans in place because they don’t know how to go about creating one,” Mercer said. “We’re hosting this seminar to help break down the barriers that scare people away from planning. We want to show that it’s actually pretty easy.”
