A Look Ahead: Date Set for BAPA Garden Walk

The Beverly Area Planning Association will host the fifth annual Beverly/Morgan Park Garden Walk on July 21.

Whether you’re going home to a sunny or shady yard, a mature garden or a freshly dug flower bed, an expansive yard or a cozy patio, you’ll be inspired by the hard work, creative vision and delight shared by local gardeners on BAPA’s 5th Annual Beverly/Morgan Park Garden Walk on Sun., July 21, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Garden Walk will begin with check-in at the Edna White Community Garden, 1850 W. Monterey Ave., where people are welcome to walk among the beautiful plantings and observe butterflies and bees.

Featured gardens are located throughout the neighborhood. Each stop is distinctive for its style, variety of plantings, and unique beauty. Among this year’s confirmed gardens are:

A stunning and expansive yard with an appealing mix of open space and lush garden beds, as well as original sculptures and captivating walkways.

A large sunny area adjacent to a lovely stone patio with lovely seating and planters where raised beds are dedicated to all manner of vegetables and herbs, largely planted and tended by the kids – great inspiration for getting children involved in gardening!

A 2023 Chicago Bungalow Association Garden Award-winning yard featuring a large, lively pond, eclectic garden architecture and décor, and abundant plantings in the ground and in pots.

A welcoming front yard pollinator garden created during the pandemic and now lush with a wide variety of mature perennials and bee- and butterfly-attracting annuals, herbs, and edibles.

A hideaway yard where the gardener, an artist whose work reflects nature, has created a masterwork with lovely vintage patio and firepit areas, a separate vegetable and herb garden, and lovely garden beds where unusual trees and ornamental shrubs embrace a variety of perennials.

An expansive property where the owner has been working on the gardens for many years, installing plantings and garden décor that masterfully mesh color, height, texture, and scent for an ever-changing ambience as you walk from bed to bed.
