5 Reasons to Join the BAPA Teen Service Corps

BAPA staff reports

The Beverly Area Planning Association is currently seeking civic-minded teenagers from the Beverly/Morgan Park neighborhood to be part of the BAPA Teen Service Corps for the 2026-2027 school year. As the program grows year after year, the number of benefits that come from joining continue to rise.

  1. Meet Like-Minded New Friends: It’snever too early to make good connections. The BAPA Teen Service Corps brings in teenagers from not only the high schools and middle schools in Beverly/Morgan Park, but from surrounding areas as well. Branch out beyond the routine friend group and meet people with similar interests from other schools. A good mix of public and parochial school students are involved in the Teen Corps, so come with an open mind and ready to share your own experiences and learn about others.
  2. Learn Real-Life Skills: Not everything is taught during the school day. That’s why the BAPA Teen Service Corps has expanded its programming to include lessons that will help its participants excel well into adulthood. Experts are routinely brought in to help Teen Corps members with lessons in developing the perfect elevator pitch, money management and starting a business.
  3. It Looks Great on a Resume: When it’s time to get a full-time job, employers are often looking for civic mindedness. That list of volunteer experiences shouldn’t be bare, and participating in the Teen Corps is something that can live on that section of a resume forever.
  4. Fulfill Service Hours: Joining the Teen Corps is a built-in way for a student to fulfill a National Honor Society or National Junior Honor Society service hours requirement. Meetings are once a month on Sundays, which fit nicely into the schedules of many of the engaged students who take part. Additional volunteer hour opportunities will be plentiful once projects reach the implementation stage.
  5. Make a Difference in Beverly/Morgan Park and Beyond: Students involved in the BAPA Teen Service Corps in recent years have become part of a real difference that’s been made in the community. From helping keep the neighborhood beautiful at the annual BAPA Clean and Green to planning a 3-on-3 youth basketball tournament and delivering donated items to local charities, there’s no shortage of opportunities to see hard work appreciated.
